The Little Acorn Café is situated at 137 High Street Terang (The Princes Highway) in the former Maternal and Child Health Centre, nestled between the library and playground.
With extensive renovations occurring during late 2023 to early 2024 the café now boasts an onsite kitchen, double the seating capacity, a beautiful deck overlooking the Dry Lake and is now open 7 days a week!
The café is a wonderful opportunity for staff to support participants in a great learning environment, to interact with the public and promote mainstream roles for people with a disability to our community.
Three staff are rostered to the café each day, two in front of house roles and one chef in the kitchen. Alongside them, participants are involved as a part of their Day Program activities, in all elements of hospitality, customer service, barista skills, food handling and preparation.
Since opening in December 2016, we have seen great outcomes for participants; each has taken great pride in their work, their presentation and their valued role and each has learned new skills along the way. The emphasis of the café is on great coffee and quality food. You will not find a deep fryer or grill in the café! Healthy meals, luscious breakfasts, fresh salads & sandwiches, house made pastries, great cakes and slices, and the best coffee for miles around. We also use and sell some local produce from the region, as well as provide a space for local artists to display their works.
Cooinda have had generous support from the Corangamite Shire, Terang Op-Shop, Terang Co-Op and Western District Employment Access in both establishing and expanding this program.
